Committed to Healing Trauma
This program will serve the communities of Virginia in many ways:
* The “healing couple” lives in the home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, establishing a constant therapeutic environment in a safe, stable and nurturing family atmosphere.
*
Creating a safe and stable home environment for children with severe trauma who are abused, neglected, attachment challenged and have an axis 1 diagnoses.
*
Effective and efficient therapy for at risk children with clinically proven and researched successful outcomes.
*
Opportunities for intensive family therapy, education and support with biological parents, guardians, and caregivers.
* Reductions in expenditures for RTC (Residential Treatment Care).
* Increases in stable placements.
* Decreases of failed adoptions.
* Retain children within Virginia, who might otherwise be sent out of state for treatment. |
WHAT IS Attachment Disorder / Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD)?
The exposure to stress with some children has been so significant that they stand outside of any category of severity. Most are or have been in foster care, have had repeated life or death experiences, have had several changes in caregivers, all have suffered from some form of emotional, sexual, or physical abuse, and generally they have never been successfully treated.
The most popular term for these children is Attachment Disorder, however, most have received every diagnosis available for severe emotional and behavioral disturbances ranging from attention-deficit hyperactivity to bi-polar and depression. (Post, 2001) |
